“Exploring Methods and Mediums: Using Color and Composition for Dramatic Effect” A 3-Day Workshop with Connie Horton
Whether you are a beginning artist or have mastered a particular medium and want to try something different, the 3-day workshop, “Exploring Methods and Mediums: Using Color and Composition for Dramatic Effect”, sponsored by the Kent Art Association at their Gallery in Kent, is for you. KAA President, Connie Horton will, over the course of three full days, 10 am- 4 pm Monday-Wednesday, April 8,9 & 10th, take you on an exciting journey through three of the most common mediums used by artists, Oil, Watercolor and Pastels. She will also demonstrate how color and composition are used make a painting more interesting and dramatic.
On Monday Mrs. Horton will cover what she describes as “easy anatomy” using wedges and symmetry, followed by a series of 5-minute sketches and then you will try “something new”. Work in a different medium, use a new tool or a larger or smaller canvass; in short, take a chance, break out of your comfort zone and expand your creativity. Tuesday and Wednesday you will work from a photo or set up while working in the medium of your choice. The cost of the workshop is $150 for the three days. You are asked to bring a bag lunch and supplies for the medium you are planning to work in. Should you decide to try another medium some materials will be available.
Mrs. Horton was born in Ossining, NY. She has a B.S. and an M.S degree from State University of New York in New Paltz, and 23 additional credits from San Francisco & San Diego State University’s in California and SUNY, in New Paltz. A retired Art Instructor, Mrs. Horton taught Art in High Schools in New York City and Millbrook, NY. She also taught advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate Art at International Schools in Berlin, Bangkok, Scotland and Santo Domingo. In Berlin she also taught Art History, 101 for the University of Maryland Overseas Extension Course. She is an accomplished artist in her own right and has exhibited extensively and won numerous awards since retiring from teaching in 1987.
