The Wykeham Consort: 'Adio Espana'
- eSunday, Apr 30
- jSt. Andrew's Church
The Wykeham Consort returns, by popular demand, on Sunday, April 30 at 4 P.M. to conclude the St. Andrew's "Music in the Nave" Concert Series 2016-17 Season. The Consort will present a program of Sephardic and Spanish Renaissance music titled "Adio Espana"
"Adio Espana" tells the story in words and music of the expulsion of the Sephardic Jews from Spain in the 15th Century. The songs and stories tell the history of a people, express sorrow and loss, the joys of young love, the trials of parents and includes the sounds of the new cultures who gave them shelter.
The Wykeham Consort is a group of musicians from the area who came together through a passion for early music. A new love for Sephardic music, old and new, evolved from their performance of Spanish Renaissance music.
