ABOUT | Main Street Antiques: Country furniture, Accessories, Apothecary, Textiles
Main Street Antiques, a “mostly country” antiques shop is chock full of affordable country things. It is located on Rt. 7 in the heart of Kent’s business district in an 1860’s building, which is also home to The House of Books, and Kent Coffee and Chocolate. Owner, Susanne Edgerly, has been selling antiques for over 30 years at shows and group shops. She opened her friendly shop in Kent in 1995. Sue’s discerning eye seeks out European and American textiles, white ironstone china, pattern glass, country furniture, apothecary items and various other accessories and collectibles. In addition, Koblenz & Co. offers a beautiful selection of antique and estate jewelry and Amy Brenner displays a sampling of her popular handcrafted pottery.
Textiles include Eastern European homespun linen towels, pillows and grain bags, currently seen in magazines featuring country décor. A selection of Quilts, Marseilles spreads, square Euroshams, ticking, and toweling are also available. White Ironstone, Pressed Glass, and Silver pieces have been staples in Main Street Antiques for many years. There are handsome large ironstone pitchers, creamers, platters, bowls, plates, etc. of varying sizes and patterns. 19th Century pressed glass patterned goblets, cordials, spooners, lamps, and cup plates line a high shelf around the shop interior. Both individual pieces of silver flatware and small hollowware serving pieces add sparkle to the displays.
Country Furniture, some pieces in old paint, serve to anchor displays of early china and pottery. Kitchen implements, tin, iron, wire, woodenware, totes, breadboards, and firkins are tastefully displayed. On the wall hang mirrors, prints, and samplers. A narrow bookcase offers books to please many interests. Collectors of apothecary will find medicine bottles, graduates, mortars and pestles and more.
Buying is an important part of Sue Edgerly’s and Merle Koblenz’s businesses. Sue and Merle are happy to consider purchasing items of interest.
We also manage Estate Sales. Experience has prepared Sue and Merle to handle estate sales with courtesy and efficiency. Please call for an appointment if you are moving, downsizing, or wish to liquidate an estate.
