SPRINGTIME IN THE COUNTRY
Cook up some catch. April 21 is Opening Day of fishing season. There’s no tonic like the Housatonic River and it’s our pride and joy. The Housatonic is a blue-ribbon river with great fishing, catch-and-release areas, trout, bass and carp, to name a few. Spend the night at Macedonia State Park, (don’t forget the marshmallows) enjoy a fresh coffee brewed over the campfire the next morning and fish the trout streams there or take advantage of the great Housatonic River. Roughing it not your thing? Stay at one of Kent’s fine inns or bed & breakfasts and relax!
Cook up green enthusiasm at the Kent Farmers Market. Support our local farmers who offer a great selection of produce, plants, flowers and home-baked goods. The Farmers’ Market will be open Fridays from 3:00 til 6:00 starting May 24 and running through October and is located at 9 South Main Street, directly opposite NAPA Auto Parts store.
Cook up a good read at the House of Books or the Kent Memorial Library. Each spring the Library opens its Book Sale…..countless recycled books all at great prices. The sale runs every weekend Memorial Day through Columbus Day – it’s worth taking the time to browse – you never know what you’ll find!
Cook up some hometown pride at our Memorial Day Parade on May 27. Following the parade is the Annual Picnic hosted by the Kent Land Trust. Enjoy reconnecting with friends and neighbors in the true American spirit of the day!
Cook up gardening ideas by visiting the Kent Greenhouse & Gardens, designers of award-winning landscapes and gardens. It’s a great year for planting your own vegetable garden. Check out the Greenhouse’s great selection of herbs, perennials, annuals and shrubs. Don’t want a big garden? The staff can offer expert advice on container gardens as well.
Cook up some fun in Kent this spring. We’ll be waiting for you.
