Effective June 30th, Weantinoge Heritage Land Trust changed its name to Northwest Connecticut Land Conservancy. Their mission remains the same and their team of professional staff will continue working to safeguard natural lands and waters, protect farmland for future generations, and connect people to nature.
Weantinoge was founded in 1965 to benefit the general public through the preservation of natural areas, fish and wildlife, and working farmland, and is now the largest land trust in Connecticut and the 18th largest in the United States by the number of lands we protect. These lands, which span more than 9,900 acres, include 15 working farms, critical watershed lands, designated wilderness areas, and 12 nature preserves open to the public with 18 miles of hiking trails.
